Ann Hodges was living a quiet life in the small town of Sylacauga, Alabama until a meteor crashed through her roof and landed on her hip.
Some accidents are ridiculous. Another completely unlikely and just such an accident took place on Tuesday, November 30, 1954, and made an American woman so famous that journalists surrounded her house for days.
This strange accident happened about noon when Ann Hodges thought to lie down for a moment.
She woke up to a loud noise and felt pain in her hip before discovering that a rock the size of a grapefruit had broken through the roof of the house.
The rock had destroyed a radio before it hit her, and at first Ann Hodges thought children were involved. Instead, it turned out to be a 3.9 kg meteorite from space.
Ann Hodges thus became the first person in the world to be hit by a meteorite.
