“Camel Girl” Ella Harper made good money in the theater – because her knees were upside down.
When Ella Harper was born in the USA in 1870, it was clear that her life would be full of thorns. The reason was that her knee joints turned the other way.
That didn’t stop this little girl though, because she learned to walk on all fours.
When she was only 14 years old, she got a job in a circus, where she was nicknamed “The Camel Girl”.
Her act was so popular that she ended up earning $200 a week, which was a good amount at the time.
After two years of exhibiting, she had accumulated enough money to be able to take a break. She invested her money in education, later married and never set foot on stage again.
