Do we spend more energy in a sauna and how much heat can we tolerate?
The temperature in a sauna is usually kept around 90 degrees, but seasoned steam worshipers can tolerate anything up to 110-120 degrees. But then people have also reached the limits that the human body can tolerate.
The World Sauna Championships were last held in August 2004 in Finland – where else? And then the temperature was exactly set at 110 degrees.
The winner of the men’s category managed to stay inside the cabin for 11 minutes and 45 seconds. The high heat in the sauna causes the capillaries in the skin to dilate and the heart has to pump harder to get blood to the skin. Therefore, steam generators require a lot of energy. More specifically, the energy consumption corresponds to a fairly brisk walk.
