Ever since prehistoric times, man is believed to have used flowers to express his love, respect and care. Archaeologists have found flower seeds and the remains of dried flowers in a Neanderthal grave in what is now Iraq. This finding indicates that Neanderthals placed flowers on the graves of their loved ones 35,000-65,000 years ago.
The first evidence of a similar use of flowers in historical times comes from ancient Egypt. There, murals show that flowers have been placed on people’s graves, both flower wreaths, flower wreaths and decorative braids. The Greeks and Romans also used flowers as a sign of positive emotions.
Flowers were used to express emotions
The Greeks decorated the heads of various winners with flowers, including athletes, and the flowers represented the success and victory of those who bore the flowers. Among the Romans, it was customary for couples in love to give each other wreaths as a sign of eternal love.
In the Middle Ages, different types of flowers began to acquire different meanings, so people could give certain flowers to express their feelings, for example, roses represented love and sunflowers represented loyalty. The tradition of giving flowers on special occasions has, of course, survived to this day.
